Island Coasts opens the series with a fast-moving race around the island's coastal roads. The route has enough rolling elevation to keep everyone honest, but no sustained mountain to make the decisions for the riders. Expect high speeds, a valuable draft, and plenty of pressure to hold position when the bunch accelerates.
We chose this as the opener because it gives different types of riders a realistic path to a result. Sprinters will like the possibilities of a fast finish, powerful rouleurs can try to stretch the field, and aggressive racers may find opportunities to force a break. The question is whether anyone can make an attack stick—or whether the first points of the series will be settled in a high-speed finish. Welcome to the National Series.
